If you have decided to implement the system  “smart home “, you probably set a question about the automation of climate control. Automatically turn on the air conditioner when it gets hot, or turn on the humidifier when the air is too dry-sounds good, right? But the automation system needs to collect indicators of the current air condition. For this purpose there is a special temperature – Xiaomi temperature and humidity sensor.

Датчик температуры и влажности Xiaomi

Of course, the usual mercury thermometer is not yet soon to be delivered, and modern electronic sensors are not so widespread, but, no doubt, the future of modern gadgets. What can a normal thermometer do? Show temperature. And what else you can want from a thermometer, performs its function, and well.

And what can the temperature sensor from Xiaomi?

First, it is a temperature and humidity sensor. Accordingly it can show twice more information of the usual thermometer. But, of course, it is not his main advantage. First of all, the sensor can be connected to the system  “Smart House “, monitor the readings remotely and use these readings in automation scenarios.

And to know the temperature, sometimes, is very important. For example at home, when a child sleeps in the room, the temperature must be constant. Or in the server room, when the operation of the air conditioner is vital to the servers.

Xiaomi temperature and humidity sensor look

A round tablet of matte white plastic, with a diameter of 3.5 centimeters and a centimeter in height, with a thermometer icon centered. From below there is an aperture for an air intake, and from above a button of pairing. There is a blue led indication that will help you when pairing the device.

The sensor is powered by the battery CR2032. To replace the battery, turn the back cover 10 degrees counterclockwise.

Despite the fact that the temperature range is clearly designed to the street, the instructions indicate that the sensor can only be used indoors. This is due to the lack of protection from moisture, i.e. even fine rain can cause the sensor to become unusable.

Because the temperature sensor uses the ZigBee protocol, one of the Xiaomi automation ecosystem gateways is required for its operation. Without it, it won’t be able to show you the temperature.

Connecting the temperature sensor in the Mi Home application

Connect the device according to the standard scenario: go to Mi Home and click on the addition of a new device manually. Following the instructions, clamp the temperature sensor button for 5 seconds, then release. The indicator should be blinking 3 times in blue, and the female voice from the gateway will inform about the successful connection.
