Dear Mr. Lynch,
I’m writing to say that I’m fond of your work, and you by extension. I read The Undertaking when I was still deciding what type of grown up to be, and it informed the way I think about some greater truths — particularly capital punishment, suicide, and assisted suicide.
Your voice — so clear, reasonable, and acquainted with mortality – has been a comfort to me. You raise thoughtful questions that often go unasked, and you do it in plain terms. Useful.
So thank you. You don’t need me to tell you that you do good work. May your impulse to write grow stronger as the years pass.
All the best,
Maggie Mason

ooooh, this is an AWESOME project!!! I’ll be writing (and tagging), but need to know, are you just sending to their publishers or agents or…? thanks!
Justine, I’m just seeing how far I can get online. Usually if you can figure out what town they live in, the post office can get it to them.
Ahh I love that Thomas Lynch is your first note! I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting and sitting down to dinner with Tom and two other incredibly talented Michigan authors. And while I was super awkward and shy, they were charming and awesome dining companions.
Oh man! The luck of it. Nothing like solid dinner conversation with smart people.
