I wanted my bedroom to be done for Valentine’s Day. I planned to make myself breakfast in bed, and then stay there all day sampling from a box of heart-shaped chocolates.

But then my bed was delayed, and my blinds never showed up, and the disco ball company called to tell me it would be an extra $200 to ship the disco ball so I had to cancel the order. I mean, we’ve all been there.

My point is, the room is coming together, and every morning I wake up happier.

My Ikea table looks great with the $40 mirror I scored at the Alameda Flea Market. This afternoon I realized I could, you know, sit there and do my makeup. So that’s where I’ll be tomorrow morning.

I scored a couple of $10 brass lamps at an antique store in Sebastapol, but they needed shades, so Victoria and I found these perfect grey shimmery things at Harrington’s on Valencia.

And the rugs! They’ve changed everything. I bought the pelt at the flea market as well, so please stay tuned for infestation alerts. Hank comes in every morning to lay down and cuddle the rug because it is so heartbreakingly soft and beloved. I have no idea what kind of animal it is, so fill me in if you’re a biologist or way way into taxidermy.

The large rug underneath is hemp and metallic leather (whut!) courtesy of Serena and Lily.  In person, it’s 1,000 times better than I dreamed, and everything smells like leather. When the sun hits just right the whole room twinkles.

In conclusion, I think this is the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done on my Life List, and I probably would never have gotten around to it otherwise. I can’t wait to show you the finished product.

The process has been a little harrowing for an indecisive sort, but Victoria has been there for me all the way. Head over to Mighty Girl  for five simple tips on how we’re tackling the process, and stay tuned to see the girl nest as it materializes.
