All of us gathered at the foot of the Eiffel Tower to wait. Before the fireworks, there were famous opera singers and a symphony playing over the quilt of picnic blankets.
As the music swelled, a red-faced man stood up among thousands upon thousands of people and screamed, “STOP TALKING! STOP!! We are trying to listen to the music!”
A few dozen people clapped heartily; my friends and I laughed and popped a sickly sweet bottle of champagne.
Cheers, Paris. Viva la France.
