The Ace Hotel Portland slows my breathing. Someday I’ll show up with a suitcase and refuse to leave.
Brad, Hank and I were driving to Seattle on New Year’s Eve when we realized that we’d never make it in time for midnight.
The Ace rented us their last room, and we tucked Hank in for a pre-midnight nap. I drew a bath and thought my thoughts while Brad went downstairs to get us drinks at the bar.
Perfection. There was nowhere to chat with Hank sleeping in the main room, so we settled in to talk and celebrate… in the bathroom.
It was nice. Friends called from Seattle and San Francisco to cheer into the phone at midnight. We tried to wake Hank to no avail.
So Brad had a bath too. Happy New Year to us.
