I will never forget when I was eight years old and got to help my mom bake all her Christmas cookies. There’s a picture of me in her apron, covered in chocolate batter. I have had a love affair with cooking for most of my life.
When I was sixteen, my mother spent months gathering recipes from our family, literally from the horse’s mouth. My great grandfather was dying, and she recorded his recipe for lemon icebox pie and wrote it in my book word for word. To this day I know it by heart, and it is still my favorite summer pie.
I try to cook one new recipe once a month, and I’ve come up with a few of my own. The plan is to pull some of my favorites, write them down, shoot some photos and create a book.
