This shirt (yes I promise it really is a shirt even though it may not look like it) is the first piece of clothing I have ever sewed for myself (halloween costumes excluded). Kind of crazy since I “started” sewing when I was about 10. Started is in quotes because long before the age of 10 I would “sew” all kinds of weird what not by hand…like barbie dresses with giant feathers sewn onto them bigger than the dress, so I say 10 because thats when I got a real deal sewing machine.
Long story short, 19 years is just too long to not ever sew anything but crazy halloween costumes for yourself! So this shirt is my first piece of made by me clothing & I love it! I sewed it based on this idea of sewing two scarves together, only I couldn’t find two scarves when I went thrifting so I used fabric I had on hand and just hemmed the bottom & finished off the arm holes in my own special way.
The best part of this goal is the wearing it in public part because so often I make things and then hide them away because they aren’t perfect. But I am happily rocking my perfectly imperfect shirt whenever I get the chance this summer!
