I’ve roasted my fair share of turkeys, but this Thanksgiving I wanted to
do things differently. And I wanted to invite my ESL student, so I
really didn’t want the hassle of sourcing a fresh, free-range halal
turkey at the end of November in Canada. So I aimed for something I called Turkish-Inspired Vegetarian American Thanksgiving.

Saffron’d Marcona almonds
Zeitoon Parvardeh with fresh flatbreads

Currant and Pistachio Pilaf Baked in a Pumpkin
Roasted Potatoes and Parsnips with Hibiscus Salt
Yogurt Cheese with Cucumbers
Rose Petal Harissa
Cranberry Chutney
Tomato Pomegranate Salad

Sticky Toffee Pudding with Figs
Shaker Lemon Pie

Excellent company, good food, entertaining travel stories. A successful dinner party. Next time, something simpler. Also, we’re going to need a bigger fridge.
