I’m not very good at sitting still.  I suspect that meditation has always been a struggle for us Type-A folks, largely because there’s always the “But I could be doing something!” thought train chugging merrily through our brains while we try to sit and just breathe.  Of course, that’s exactly the reason why me and people like me should meditate: to give ourselves a break from the constant activity and just be for awhile.

This year, 2013, I’m going to meditate every day.  Even if it’s just for 10 minutes, I am going to commit to sitting with whatever is going on, and giving myself the safe vessel of that quiet space to contemplate my feelings.  My hope is that this will allow me some room to consider my emotions and experience of them thoughtfully; to be able to respond more often, not react.

It’s terrifying, but it’s necessary.  Onward.
