The end of summer snuck up on me. All of a sudden I realized my early Fridays were almost over! So off the museum I went on a beautiful day.

The National Museum of African Art is part of the Smithsonian Museum system, so it’s free to the public and located along the National Mall. It can be easy to miss as it’s one of the smaller buildings, located between the Smithsonian Castle and the street, not on the grassy mall side. It’s also a lot bigger than it looks from the outside because there are 3 floors below ground.

This was the final museum (that is open) for me to visit on the National Mall. When I was there, the special exhibit on art from Sierra Leone and Liberia was about to close. It was a good reminder of the beautiful art and culture of the countries that are suffering so much with the Ebola outbreak right now.
