Are there words to describe how adorable the Dal Zattos are? After 5 seconds of meeting Otto and Elena, patriarchs of Dal Zotto winery, it was hard not to fall in love with them. With their loving smiles, kind and generous hearts, and adorable banter that the riposted between the life-long couple, we couldn’t get enough of them.

Nestled in the King Valley which reminded Otto of his childhood region in Italy famous for its Prosecco, the Dal Zotto wines have blended Aussie ingenuity with Italian heritage to pioneer prosecco in Australia. Now joined by two of their sons in the operations of Dal Zatto, they are a family of passion, heart, and amazing wines.

Mind you, Diane and I had to recap between the two of us to capture the whole story, with Otto sharing his love and passion for the wines to Diane as Elena simultaneously shared her versions and color commentary to me. Just thinking of them at the table brings makes my cheeks ache from grinning. Like so many Aussies, and Italians, they instantly welcomed us into their hearts and we can help but to savor them forever.

Their wines were exceptional, with the beautiful immersion of Italian varietals  - barbera, sangiovese, arneis, and of course prosecco, as well the production of Australian classics such as Shiraz. They are truly pioneers, making great wine out of varietals to a region which has never seen those grapes previously touch it’s soil. And in their cellar door they have a trattoria worth a half day drive just to enjoy a meal there. Yet beyond the palate, what truly makes them special and memorable, is the heart and family of Dal Zotto.

Milla grazie, mates!
