The other day I made a fancy dessert to help out with a fundraiser at my daughter’s school.  I knew, when I was asked to do it, that I wanted to make something that involved french macarons.  See, we live in Texas.  Do you guys have any idea how hard it is to get french macarons in Texas?  I live in  largest metropolitan area in the state.  Smack dab in the middle of the 17th and 9th largest cities IN AMERICA.  Locating macarons should not be an all day affair.

But it is.

So when I made this cake  and posted pictures of the macaroons-in-progress on my facebook, I had several people chime in, lamenting HOW FAR we have to drive to find macarons.  And then immediately they all said : TEACH ME YOUR WAYS

Wait, what?!  I mean, I was just goofing off in the kitchen.  Sure, the macarons had little feet and smelled lovely and had the perfect crispy to chewy ratio, but I’m no macaron expert.

I laughed it off until someone said : “No seriously.  I’m tired of driving to Dallas.”

So, I’m thinking about doing this thing.  I’ve recently come to grips with the fact that I may never teach at a university and so I’m trying to dive into any and all other teaching-type opportunities.  Macarons have nothing to do with universities, and I know that this will probably be a one time event, but well….here’s to embracing random (and fun and tasty) opportunities!
