I’m not proud of starting the New Year and my 2015 Reading Challenge this way. It’s something I’ve put off for a few years, despite being given the first installment as a gift, but after I finished the latest in the Outlander series I needed some easy, mindless reading- a book (or three) you can lose yourself in for a few days. So I read 50 Shades of Grey by EL James.
After finishing these, I have (only) a few issues: First is when the author claims that because Layla (the crazy ex) has a CWP (concealed weapons permit) it means she can buy a gun. WRONG! Anyone in Washington can purchase a gun, as long as you haven’t been convicted of a felony. They are also legally allowed to open-carry. A CWP allows an individual to carry concealed (in a purse, back holster, pocket, or similar hiding place.)
Secondly and thirdly: Misinformation about Seattle’s Columbia Tower Club. They refer to it as the “Mile High Club,” an elite dinner club located on the top floor of the Tower, and maybe I’m taking it too personally as I have been to the CTC multiple times, but two problems arise in Ms James’ telling: One is that the waiter “tops off our champagne glasses” with Cristal. Don’t you think a thousand-dollar-per-month elite membership club would bring you a new glass?? Especially drinking a bottle that costs a couple hundred dollars. And my second issue with the portrayal is the elevator ride down, where the characters fail to change elevators (in the Columbia Tower, it takes two elevators to reach the top floor’s club.)
Overall, glad I finally got these off my shelf and can check a trilogy off my list.
